Physical and Mental Preparation For 15 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek requires trekkers to ascend and descend on hilly trails, stone staircases, and rocky paths. Although the route has been classified as moderately difficult, it is still a physically demanding trek. Therefore, the physical fitness of the trekkers matters. They have to be prepared to walk 5 to 8 hours a day on average. Similarly, they have to be prepared to walk 15 km a day while on the trail. Trekkers need physical endurance and stamina to complete the trek.

Likewise, the elevation of the Annapurna Base Camp can affect many trekkers with altitude sickness. Above 3,000 meters, the oxygen level in the atmosphere begins to drop. Hence, many trekkers get symptoms of altitude sickness like nausea, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath etc. The climate of the higher elevations is unpredictable. It can change rapidly and it can present challenges to the trekkers. The roughness of the terrains, the daily long hikes, unpredictable weather changes, and not enough facilities can sometimes mentally stress the trekkers.

To cope with the physical and mental strain during the 15 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek, trekkers should prepare themselves beforehand. To improve physical endurance and strength, trekkers can take up exercises and training like jogging, hiking, and climbing stairs. Also, research the information about Annapurna Base Camp and build mental resilience. You will also have to prepare proper clothing, trekking equipment, and gear for the trek.

Is Annapurna Base Camp Trail Crowded?

The Annapurna Base Camp is a popular and highly commercialized trek destination in Nepal. Whether the trail is crowded or not depends on the time of the year you are trekking. During the peak trekking season in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), the route is quite busy. Furthermore, the same route is shared by Ghorepani Poonhill and Annapurna Circuit Trek. Therefore, it is a common sight to see many similar trekking groups during these seasons.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek during the summer season is highly not recommended. The heavy rainfall makes the trail muddy, slipper, and unsafe. Moreover, there are risks of landslides. So not many trekkers are seen during this season. Winter brings snowfall in the higher elevations. But with proper preparation, it is possible to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. If you want to avoid crowds, it is best to trek in early spring, late autumn, and early winter.
